A 28-year-old man was shot dead and his associate injured after unidentified assailants opened fire in south Delhi

A 28-year-old man died and his associate was injured after unidentified assailants opened fire on them in Pul Prahladpur area of south Delhi, officials said on Tuesday.

Police said a PCR call regarding the firing was received at the Pul Prahladpur police station at around 12.41 am on Monday, following which a team was rushed to the spot.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Irshad Alam alias Guddu (28). He sustained multiple gunshot injuries and a deep cut-throat injury in the attack, police said.

He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body has been preserved for postmortem.

Mohammad Farukh (27) suffered a gunshot injury to his left hand. He was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. After being administered first aid, he was discharged.

A Crime Team and forensic experts inspected the scene of the crime and collected evidence. Police recovered 10 empty cartridge cases and two live cartridges from the spot, all of which have been seized and sent for forensic examination.

The police said multiple teams have been constituted to identify and apprehend the attackers.

Investigators are analysing CCTV footage from the surrounding area, while technical surveillance and other investigative methods are being employed to trace the accused.

No arrests have been made in the matter yet.

An FIR has been registered and further investigation into the matter is underway.
