A senior member of the Delhi BJP’s Kisan Morcha was killed in a shooting incident in Bindapur’s Dwarka area on Friday evening, said police.
Police said that an incident of firing had been reported from Bindapur in which one 60-year-old person, identified as Surendra Matiala, was shot dead.
“The deceased was sitting in office at the time of the incident. He had contested the councillor election from the area and was a BJP candidate in the 2020 Assembly polls from Matiala,” they said.
While the motive behind the attack is not clear, multiple teams have been formed to probe the matter. “We are checking CCTV footage and investigating from all angles,” they added.
CCTV footage captured the entire incident, and the suspects fled the scene after the shooting, they further added.
The police have registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of the Arms Act. (With inputs from PTI)
