Delhi: A 61-year-old retired IRS officer was injured in a knife attack by a suspected burglar at his home in Vasant Kunj, South Delhi, early Sunday, according to police reports.
The officer, Abhay Kumar Singh, and his wife, Anupama, who also sustained minor injuries, were taken to AIIMS for treatment and later discharged.
DelhiPolice have apprehended a 38-year-old burglar named Jitender in connection with the attack, an officer said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest Delhi) Rohit Meena said that a burglary attempt was reported at Vasant Kunj South Police Station around 1:15 am.
The incident occurred while Singh and his wife were asleep in their bedroom, with their son and a servant in another part of the house.
“At around 1 am, Singh was awakened by a loud noise coming from the balcony next to their bedroom. He saw a man entering through the sliding door and began shouting, which woke his wife. The intruder then attacked Abhay and his wife with a knife,” said the DCP.
The commotion alerted others in the house, who managed to lock the thief inside the bedroom. However, he escaped through the balcony, according to Meena.

Following the incident, police formed six teams to search for the suspect..
Eventually, Jitender, originally from Meerut, was caught with the knife in his possession, the officer added. (With inputs from PTI)
