Delhi : A 72-year-old retired MTNL mechanic was reportedly stabbed to death by his son over a property dispute at their home in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar area on Saturday morning, according to the police.
Police officials said that Mahesh Thakur, the younger son of Gautam Thakur, was allegedly angered by his father’s decision to assist his elder brother in purchasing a property.
During questioning, Mahesh revealed that he had found out about his father’s intention to sell the family home. He claimed that his father was making these plans secretly with his elder brother, excluding him from the discussions, as explained by Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apurva Gupta.
Mahesh further told the police that two years ago, his father had sold some property and used the money to help his elder brother buy a property in New Ashok Nagar, leaving him with nothing.
Feeling betrayed, Mahesh plotted and carried out his father’s murder while the rest of the family was asleep, Gupta said.
Gupta mentioned that the police team responding to the PCR call about the stabbing discovered Gautam Thakur dead on the bed in his room on the first floor of the house.

She noted that Gautam had stab wounds on his abdomen, and that Mahesh was the one who made the PCR call.
After confessing, Mahesh was arrested. He also revealed the alleged murder weapon, a large kitchen knife, which was retrieved from a water tank on the roof of a neighbouring house where he had discarded it, according to the police.
Gautam, who had retired from MTNL in 2012, lived with his two sons and their families on the first floor of the house, police stated.
Investigations revealed that all family members were present in the house at the time of the incident, Gupta said.
Initially, Mahesh claimed he saw two men leaving the house shortly after the incident, but this claim is under verification, she said.
The DCP added that several inconsistencies were found in Mahesh’s initial account and discrepancies in his story during the initial investigation. (With inputs from PTI)
