Delhi: Thirteen suspected Bangladeshi nationals, including five minors, were detained in Delhi’s Auchandi village for allegedly residing in the city without valid documents, police said on Friday.
According to the police, the detainees, all from Khudigram in Bangladesh, were identified as Mohd Rafikul (50), Khoteza Begum (41), Mohd Anowar Hussain (37), Mohd Aminul Islam (28), Zorina Begum (27), Afroza Khatun (25), Mohd Khakhon (20), Hasna (19), along with five minors.
The operation was conducted by the Crime Branch following intelligence inputs about Bangladeshi nationals seeking shelter in the area. “On May 13, a team laid a trap in Auchandi village and apprehended 13 individuals,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Aditya Gautam.
During questioning, the group reportedly admitted to being Bangladeshi citizens and confessed to lacking valid documents permitting their stay in India. They also disclosed that they had entered India two years ago with the assistance of a Bangladeshi agent, identified as Zalil Ahmad.

The group travelled by bus from Khudigram to the India-Bangladesh border, crossed through unfenced agricultural fields, and proceeded to Cooch Behar station in West Bengal by autorickshaw. From there, they boarded a train to Delhi and later reached Kharkhoda in Haryana by bus.
In Kharkhoda’s Sisana village, they found work as casual labourers at a brick kiln, police said, adding that Bangladeshi identity documents were recovered from them.
