Customs officers seized 326 gm of gold jewellery worth Rs 45.86 lakh from the passenger, who had arrived from Almaty

Customs officers at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here intercepted an Uzbekistan passport holder arriving from Almaty on August 14 and seized 326 gm of gold jewellery worth Rs 45.86 lakh from his possession, officials said on Monday.

The passenger was intercepted at the green channel by the Customs officers, an official statement said.

“On detailed examination, 326 gm of gold jewellery, valued at Rs 45.86 lakh, concealed on her person was recovered,” the statement said.

Under Customs regulations, passengers can bring gold into India subject to prescribed conditions, quantity limits and applicable Customs duty.

Gold that is not declared, or is concealed to evade Customs duty, can be seized and may attract action under the Customs Act, 1962.

In this case, the recovered gold jewellery was seized, and a case was filed under the provisions of the Customs Act, the statement said.
