Delhi: A 28-year-old alleged shooter associated with the Hashim Baba gang has been arrested from Haryana’s Karnal, police said on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Ruhail alias Sahil, is a resident of Anoopshahar in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahar district. He was allegedly involved in the murder of Faizan alias Fazzi, who was shot dead inside a cafe in the Welcome area on January 23.

According to investigators, Ruhail had allegedly carried out the murder along with his associates Moin Qureshi and Suhail following a sudden altercation with the victim, who had allegedly addressed Moin Qureshi’s father by his first name.

Police said Ruhail was a close associate of gangster Hashim Baba. Proceedings had also been initiated against him by a Delhi court after he remained absconding for several months.

“Moin Qureshi, who is linked to gangster Rashid Kebalwala, had earlier been arrested by the Special Cell after an encounter, while the remaining accused had been evading arrest,” a senior police officer said.

Investigators found that Ruhail had frequently changed hideouts and remained underground to avoid arrest.

Acting on specific input, police conducted a raid in Karnal in the intervening night of May 24 and 25 and apprehended him.

During interrogation, Ruhail allegedly disclosed that he worked as a carpenter and had limited education.

Police said he initially became involved in theft-related offences after coming into contact with criminal elements in Delhi and later graduated to more serious crimes.

His criminal history includes cases related to theft and illegal possession of arms registered in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, police said.
