Two daily wage labourers were allegedly shot dead in Welcome area of Delhi by unidentified assailants in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.

The victims have been identified as 40-year-old Pradeep and Bablu. The authorities were notified about the incident at approximately 2:15 am.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), Joy Tirkey, said that Pradeep was found lifeless on the main 65 futa road, Pili Mitti in the Welcome area.

He said that his body displayed two gunshot wounds on his stomach and lower abdomen. Two empty 9-mm shells were discovered near the crime scene.

He added that shortly after, Bablu’s lifeless body was found near a lane in Subhash Park. He had suffered two gunshot injuries on his chest and lower abdomen. Similar to Pradeep’s case, two empty 9-mm shells were recovered near his body.

Investigations have revealed that Pradeep and Bablu were acquainted and possibly together at the time of the incident, said DCP.

He said that the distance between the locations where their bodies were discovered was approximately 300 meters.

Authorities suspect that Bablu was shot first in the lane, followed by Pradeep on the main road.

Both victims were immediately transported to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival, said police.

The police have registered a case of murder and formed multiple teams to diligently work on the investigation. The assailants remain unidentified, and their motive behind the heinous act is yet to be determined. (with inputs from PTI)
