In a shocking incident in southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, a 42-year-old woman and her teenage son were found murdered in their home late Wednesday evening, allegedly at the hands of their domestic help. The accused, 24-year-old Mukesh, was arrested from a train in Uttar Pradesh while attempting to flee, police said on Thursday.
The crime came to light around 9:43 PM on Wednesday when Kuldeep Sewani, a resident of Lajpat Nagar-I, called the police after finding bloodstains on the staircase of his house and being unable to reach his wife Ruchika and their 14-year-old son.
“A PCR van and a police team were immediately dispatched. On arrival, the complainant pointed out bloodstains and said his family was not responding. The house gate was forced open,” said Hemant Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), in a statement.
Inside, police discovered Ruchika’s body in the bedroom and her son’s body in the bathroom. Kuldeep and Ruchika jointly ran a garment shop in the nearby Lajpat Nagar market. Their son was a Class 10 student.
During the initial probe, police found that Mukesh, the family’s domestic help, had been missing since the incident. A native of Hajipur in Bihar, he also worked at the couple’s shop and occasionally served as their driver.

Acting on leads, Mukesh was traced and apprehended by Uttar Pradesh Police at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction as he attempted to escape by train, the DCP added.
The motive behind the killings remains unclear, and police say further investigation is underway.
