A temporary structure set up at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in south Delhi collapsed on Saturday, injuring at least 29 people, all of whom were workers. There have been no reported deaths at this time.

The incident occurred around 11 am when the workers were under the tent, which suddenly collapsed. Eighteen of the injured have been admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, while the other eleven were taken to Safdarjung Hospital. One of the AIIMS patients underwent surgery.

A police case has been registered against the contractor at Lodhi Colony Police Station under IPC sections 288 and 337.

According to a Delhi Fire Services official, two people were initially rescued from under the debris, followed by 27 more. The tent, erected for a wedding, was located at the parking area near gate number 2, constructed by a private contractor with around 250 workers. When the structure collapsed, 40 workers were trapped, some of whom were rescued with the help of players and stadium staff.

Teams from the Delhi Fire Services, National Disaster Response Force, and local police responded, removed debris, and freed trapped workers. At AIIMS, seven patients are in the emergency department with severe injuries, and 11 have moderate injuries. Patients have been identified, but one injured worker remains unidentified.

Safdarjung Hospital has admitted 11 patients with various injuries. Police believe the tent pillars were not properly secured, leading to the collapse. Due to the incident, the stadium remained closed for several hours on Saturday.
