Indian Cancer Society – Delhi Branch is hosting its annual fundraiser with a unique and exciting event, “Unmasked: When Ravana Walked the Earth,” presented by the renowned Jyotsna Shourie Dance Company. The fundraising event will be held at 6:30 pm on April 14 at Kamani Auditorium, Coopernicus Marg, New Delhi. The Jyotsna Shourie Dance Company has come on board for the former’s ‘Artistes against Cancer’ annual programme.
This fusion of Bharatanatyam and contemporary dance, comedy, theatre, mythology, and fiction takes the audience on a journey through Lanka, offering a fresh perspective on the nuances of good and evil. The musical score by Daniel George adds to the beauty of the show, with a professional cast of dancers and theatre personalities making it even more unique.
The event aims to raise funds for cancer patients who cannot afford medical treatment, and all proceeds from the show will go to the Indian Cancer Society, Delhi Branch. The performance is open to everyone, and tickets can be purchased online or at the venue. The event is directed by Jyotsna Shourie, and produced by Aneesha Grover, a Bharatanatyam dancer, writer, and producer with over 15 years of television and production experience.
The show’s storyline draws inspiration from diverse dance styles, concepts, and methodologies and is written by an eclectic mix of writers from theatre, stand-up comedy, and television backgrounds, including Jyotsna Shourie, Aneesha Grover, Reuben Israel, and Sriraam Padmanabhan. The lead dancers are Nandita Kalaan, Aneesha Grover, Amrita Sivakumar, Himanshu Srivastava, and Benjamin Jacob. The actors performing are Reuben Israel and Dhruv Raj Gupta, and the accompanying dancers are students of the Jyotsna Shourie Dance Society.
Jyotsna Govil, Chairperson of the Indian Cancer Society, Delhi Branch, expressed her gratitude to the Jyotsna Shourie Dance Company for supporting their cause. Jyotsna Shourie said, “Our aim with ‘Unmasked’ is to entertain and reflect on issues, and we are excited to collaborate with the Indian Cancer Society, Delhi Branch to raise funds for cancer patients in need.”
