Delhi government’s popular annual Mango Festival kicked off this morning at Janakpuri Dilli Haat and is slated to run until July 7.
Officials said 500 varieties of mangoes from orchards located in different parts of the country will be showcased at the event. The festival is a regular feature in the city and always draws a huge crowd of mango aficionados.
It has been organised by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation, every year since 1987 to celebrate the variety of flavours offered by the king of fruits and attracts thousands of people.
The festival will feature mango displays, a mango-eating competition for men and women, a mango quiz, a slogan writing competition for children, cultural programs, and sales of mangoes and mango products.

The event will also showcase mangoes of various shapes and sizes, from grape-sized to papaya-sized varieties. Mango cultivators from different regions of India will participate in the festival.
An official said that it is a unique initiative by the government to promote tourism in the city, familiarise the public with various varieties of mangoes, and provide a platform for small and large mango producers to expand their business.

Entry for visitors will be through Dilli Haat entry passes.
