Supporters rejoice as BJP wins Delhi Assembly elections, ending AAP’s decade-long rule. The BJP secured 48 seats in the, while the incumbent AAP was restricted to just 22 seats

Delhi Election: Celebrations erupted at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters office and its state office as jubilant supporters waved party flags alongside ‘Lord Ram’ banners, chanting slogans such as ‘Modi, Modi’, ‘Jai Shree Ram’, and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. The festive atmosphere was palpable as early trends indicated a landslide victory for the BJP in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.

Amid the celebrations, supporters burst crackers, played Holi, and cheered with enthusiasm. The BJP office was thronged with party workers rejoicing over the anticipated win, asserting that Delhi’s voters had delivered a decisive mandate in favour of the saffron party, expressing their discontent with former Chief Minister and AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s governance.

Some supporters dressed as their admired leaders, with two donning the attire of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath—one holding his portrait and the other carrying a gada (a weapon depicted in Hindu mythology).

Another supporter recreated Aamir Khan’s character from the film PK, wearing a yellow helmet and holding a large ladoo, symbolising what he called Delhi’s choice of the right government after a decade. He remarked that the city would now witness significant development, including a cleaner Yamuna and improved drinking water facilities.

The celebratory mood intensified with supporters dancing to the beats of dhol as speakers played BJP’s Delhi election theme song, ‘BJP Dil Mein, BJP Delhi Mein’.

Several BJP leaders, including state president Virendra Sachdeva, national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, senior leader and NDMC vice president Kuljeet Singh Chahal, and others, arrived at the party office to join the celebrations.

BJP secures a decisive mandate

According to official figures from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the three-way battle in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections ended with the BJP securing a dominant 45.56% vote share, while AAP managed 43.57%, and Congress trailed with 6.34%.

This marks a significant decline for AAP, which had previously secured 53.57% of the votes in the 2020 elections. Meanwhile, the BJP saw a sharp rise from its 38.51% vote share in 2020, while Congress made a slight gain from 4% to 6.34%.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, the crowd erupted in chants of “Modi, Modi”, celebrating the party’s historic victory. Modi began his address with “Yamuna Maiya ki Jai”, paying tribute to the sacred river.

Modi takes aim at AAP’s governance

Congratulating party workers for their relentless efforts, PM Modi criticised AAP, stating that the people of Delhi had sent a strong message to those who considered themselves the “owners of the city.” He declared, “The people have shown who the real ruler of Delhi is.”

Taking a swipe at AAP’s governance, he remarked, “There are no shortcuts in politics—no space for lies. They have short-circuited the shortcut party.”

Expressing gratitude to voters, Modi said, “Delhi has never disappointed me in Lok Sabha elections. In 2014, 2019, and 2024, the people ensured BJP’s victory in all seven seats.” He highlighted Delhi’s diverse population, calling it a mini-Hindustan, and asserted that people from every community and locality had backed BJP’s vision.

Modi assured citizens that massive development was on the horizon, promising transformation across the national capital. He added, “BJP workers have long wished to serve Delhi fully. Today, the city has given us that opportunity.”

Referring to BJP’s growing electoral dominance, he said, “After our Lok Sabha victory, we set records in Haryana and Maharashtra. Now, Delhi has made history.”

Amit Shah and JP Nadda hail BJP’s victory

Taking to X, Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, “Delhiites have shown that the public cannot be misled by repeated false promises. The public has responded to the dirty Yamuna, dirty drinking water, broken roads, overflowing sewers, and liquor shops open in every street with their votes.”

“I heartily congratulate all the workers of @BJP4Delhi who worked day and night for this grand victory in Delhi, BJP National President Mr @JPNadda ji and State President Mr @Virend_Sachdeva ji. Be it the respect for women, the self-respect of unauthorized colony residents, or the immense possibilities of self-employment, Delhi will now become an ideal capital under the leadership of Modiji,” Shah added.

Meanwhile, BJP National President JP Nadda also took a dig at AAP, and said, “They misled people in the name of education. Delhi has made it clear—it no longer wants such a party.” Calling AAP a “factory of lies and corruption”, he emphasised that BJP’s victory marks a new era for Delhi’s governance.

BJP supporters celebrate AAP’s defeat

Speaking to Patriot, Ashutosh Khurana, a BJP supporter playing with colours following the BJP’s lead in the early trends, said, “After over a decade of bad governance and a bunch of lies by the AAP, Delhiites have finally chosen the government that will work for the welfare of the national capital.”

“Kejriwal has made the people of the national capital suffer for even clean drinking water. The Yamuna River was made toxic, and AAP has done nothing to clean it. AAP only knows how to pass the buck every time people seek answers for their wrong deeds,” Khurana said.

Another party supporter, Nischay Verma, holding a BJP flag in one hand and a poster of PM Modi in the other, said, “The residents have made it clear that they no longer believe the promises made by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal. They know that there is only one guarantee, and that is Modi’s guarantee.”

Criticising Kejriwal for turning the city dirty, he added, “The former CM promised to clean the three landfill sites in the national capital by 2024, but every time there was a new deadline and blame game. Since AAP took over the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), there are heaps of garbage visible across the city. This is why Delhiites have chosen BJP over the AAP-led government in the capital.”

High-profile campaigners bolster BJP’s campaign

Several star campaigners conducted rallies in the national capital to campaign for BJP candidates. PM Modi hosted three rallies in Delhi, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah held at least 18 public events in the poll season.

In addition, several Union ministers and senior leaders from across the country, including Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Union Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar, Union Minister of Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, held public meetings and rallies in the national capital ahead of the polls.

The BJP secured 48 seats in the Delhi elections, while AAP was restricted to just 22 seats. Meanwhile, the third major contender, Congress, failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive term.
