Delhi coaching centre deaths: Court sends 6 accused to 4-day CBI custody

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Nishant Garg sent six accused to the custody till September 4

A Delhi court on Saturday placed six individuals in the custody of the CBI for four days in connection with a case involving the drowning of three civil services aspirants in the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Nishant Garg ordered that Abhishek Gupta, Deshpal Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, Sarabjit Singh, and Parvinder Singh remain in custody until September 4.

The judge said, “Considering the submissions in the application, especially the scope of investigation as outlined in the Delhi High Court’s order dated August 2, 2024, custodial interrogation of the accused is necessary to further the investigation and determine the roles of various individuals who may have been involved in corrupt practices or criminal negligence”.

The judge’s decision followed a CBI application requesting four days of police custody for the interrogation of the six accused.

This order was issued after the accused were presented in court following the expiration of their previously granted judicial custody in the case.

The CBI has registered the case under various alleged offences, including criminal negligence, dereliction of duties, and corrupt practices, potentially involving local authority officials. (With inputs from PTI)
