Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday announced that the long-inactive Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) will soon be revived, signalling a renewed government focus on women’s welfare and safety.
Speaking at the Rashtriya Mahila Aapke Ghar Jan Sunwai, an event organised by the National Women Commission, CM Gupta said nearly 1,500 cases involving women in distress are currently pending. “That’s why the Delhi Commission for Women will be reactivated and will begin functioning again,” she said, emphasising the need for institutional support.
Highlighting a recent complaint received during a public hearing at her residence, Gupta recounted how a parent had reported ongoing harassment of their daughters by a group of boys, despite a formal police complaint having been lodged. “Such people will keep making mistakes, but it is our responsibility to take action against them,” she said.

In a bid to improve women’s safety, the Chief Minister announced plans to install 50,000 CCTV cameras across the city’s dark spots. She clarified that these areas are not just poorly lit but also suffer from weak network connectivity, making them particularly vulnerable.

Gupta also reiterated her government’s commitment to supporting working women. She announced the establishment of 500 crèche facilities and said eligible women would receive financial assistance of Rs 2,500 as part of the ongoing efforts to create a more secure and enabling environment.
