Delhi Election: Sandeep Dikshit, the Congress candidate from the New Delhi assembly constituency, extended his congratulations to BJP’s Parvesh Verma on Saturday for securing victory in the seat by defeating three-time sitting MLA and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

Dikshit, whose mother Sheila Dikshit served as Delhi’s chief minister for three consecutive terms and also represented the same seat, took to X to acknowledge Verma’s win.

“Congratulations on your splendid victory from New Delhi,” he wrote in Hindi, tagging Verma in the post.

The New Delhi constituency was considered a high-profile battleground, with Dikshit facing a direct contest against Kejriwal and Verma.

For Kejriwal, the AAP national convenor and the face of the party that emerged from the anti-corruption movement of 2013, the contest proved to be a dramatic seesaw that ultimately ended in disappointment.

As vote counting progressed, Kejriwal alternated between trailing and leading before finally falling behind again. By the end of the day, the verdict was clear—he had lost to Verma by 4,089 votes. Verma, the son of former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, emerged victorious.

Dikshit finished in a distant third place, securing 4,568 votes, a figure that exceeded the margin of victory in the seat.

Meanwhile, in Moti Nagar, Harish Khurana, the son of former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana, also clinched victory on a BJP ticket, defeating AAP’s Shivcharan Goel by a margin of 11,657 votes.

Following his triumph over former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi, BJP’s Parvesh Verma stated that the party’s leadership would determine the next chief minister of Delhi.

Verma, the son of former CM Sahib Singh Verma, expressed gratitude to the people, describing the outcome as “the victory of the people of the national capital.”

“This is not just my victory; it is the victory of the people of Delhi, who have chosen truth over lies, governance over gimmicks, and development over deception. I am deeply grateful to every voter who placed their trust in me,” Verma said.

He credited the win to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP national president JP Nadda, promising to work diligently for transformative change in Delhi.

“This mandate sends a clear message that people want honest, transparent, and development-driven politics. My commitment to serve with integrity and dedication remains unwavering,” he asserted.

Verma, a former MP from the West Delhi constituency, declared that a “new chapter” had begun for Delhi and vowed to work toward a brighter future with collective efforts.

He also accused Kejriwal of failing to deliver on his promises over the past 11 years.

“All the work was merely on paper and advertisements. The people of Delhi have reaffirmed their faith in Modi. This victory is a result of the work Modi has done for Delhi and the nation. I thank Nadda, Shah, and the party leadership for presenting a strong manifesto,” Verma added.

He outlined key priorities, including cleaning the Yamuna River, tackling pollution, providing employment opportunities, alleviating traffic congestion, and addressing issues in both villages and urban colonies.

AAP national convenor Kejriwal, who had won the New Delhi seat in 2013, 2015, and 2020, lost to Verma this time by a margin of 4,089 votes.
