The Delhi government has recently implemented a uniform retirement date for Anganwadi workers and helpers (AWWs/AWHs) in the national capital.
According to an official order, April 30 of each year will serve as the annual retirement date for all AWWs/AWHs working in various ICDS projects in Delhi.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development has issued guidelines for all states and union territories to adopt a uniform retirement date for AWWs/AWHs to assess the requirement of these workers and helpers in advance, and enable the department to recruit new workers in a proper manner.
This move will help in preventing the shortage of AWWs and AWHs due to vacant posts and allow the department to recruit new workers in a systematic manner rather than throughout the year in a disaggregate manner.
The order stated that all AWWs/AWHs who will attain the age of 60 years between April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, will stand retired on April 30, 2023.
The District WCD Officers are directed to implement the uniform retirement date policy from this financial year onwards.
