Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said the Delhi government will approach the Supreme Court seeking uniform rules for overage vehicles in the capital, similar to those enforced in the rest of the country.
Gupta’s remarks come days after her government urged the Centre’s air quality panel to suspend the ban on the use of fuel in overage vehicles, citing implementation challenges.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, in a letter to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), called the fuel ban “technologically unfeasible” and said it was difficult to enforce effectively.

Speaking to reporters at an event, Gupta said the government would present its case before the apex court, highlighting the pollution control steps it has taken and pushing for consistent norms.
“We’ll convey to the Supreme Court that the same parameters applied nationwide should apply to Delhi too. Our priority is to ensure that people here don’t face unnecessary hardship,” she said.
The chief minister added that the government is committed to addressing public concerns and providing relief.
At present, a 2018 Supreme Court order bans diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years in Delhi. A 2014 NGT order also prohibits parking vehicles older than 15 years in public spaces.
