The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that the HUDA City Centre station on the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro will be renamed as Millennium City Centre.
This decision comes after an earlier announcement to rename it as Gurugram City Centre. The HUDA City Centre station is located in Gurugram, Haryana, which is known as Millennium City due to its status as a bustling IT and commercial hub in the National Capital Region.
In partial modification of the earlier announcement regarding the renaming of the HUDA City Centre Metro station on Yellow Line, it has now been decided by competent authorities to rename the station as Millennium City Centre.

The DMRC stated that the renaming process has been initiated and will be gradually implemented on official documents, signage, and announcements. The request to rename the station reportedly came from both the Central government and the Haryana government. However, the authorities have not provided specific grounds for the decision to rename the station.
The HUDA City Centre metro station is the terminal point of the 49-kilometer Yellow Line, with the other end being the Samyapur Badli metro station in northwest Delhi. The station was inaugurated on June 21, 2010, as part of the Qutub Minar-HUDA City Centre segment.
The renaming decision has raised questions and concerns among Delhi Metro commuters. Some individuals have questioned the need for renaming the station, suggesting that it may be an attempt to promote the name “Gurugram” and make it more popular after the rechristening of Gurgaon.
“I fail to comprehend the purpose behind the station’s renaming. One possible explanation could be that the local authorities aimed to boost the popularity of ‘Gurugram’ following the rechristening of Gurgaon. However, altering the existing name was entirely unnecessary,” expressed a Gurugram resident who regularly commutes via the metro to reach his workplace in Delhi.
However, residents and commuters have expressed that changing the established name was unnecessary and could result in additional costs for updating signages, documents, and pre-recorded announcements within the station complex.
Accordingly, the process of changing the name in all official documents, signage, announcements etc has been initiated and shall be changed gradually.
