Delhi Police has released a traffic advisory outlining arrangements and restrictions for New Year eve across the national capital, particularly in Connaught Place, an official stated.
A senior officer said adequate traffic personnel will be deployed in key areas of the city, with a focus on markets, malls, and popular celebration spots such as Connaught Place and Hauz Khas.
Special traffic arrangements have been made for areas around Connaught Place due to the expected large crowds on New Year, another officer added. Restrictions will be enforced from 8 pm on Tuesday in Connaught Place and surrounding areas until the celebrations conclude. These restrictions will apply to both private and public transport vehicles, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dhal Singh.
The DCP warned that strict action will be taken against violations like drunken driving, overspeeding, stunt biking, reckless, zig-zag, and dangerous driving.
Vehicles will not be permitted to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond certain points, including Mandi House roundabout, Bengali Market roundabout, the northern foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road–Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg crossing, RK Ashram Marg–Chitragupta Marg crossing, Gole Market roundabout, GPO roundabout, and Kasturba Gandhi Road, among others.
Only vehicles with valid passes will be allowed in the inner, middle, or outer circles of Connaught Place, Singh stated.
Parking will be available at designated locations such as Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road behind AIR, Mandi House on Copernicus Marg up to Baroda House, Minto Road on DD Upadhyaya Marg and Press Road area, Panchkuian Road on RK Ashram Marg, KG Marg–Ferozshah Road crossing on Copernicus Lane, and Windsor Place. However, parking spaces will be limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis, with unauthorized vehicles towed away and penalized.
Elaborate arrangements have also been made around India Gate to manage pedestrian and vehicular traffic. In case of heavy pedestrian movement, vehicles may be diverted from areas such as C-Hexagon, Q-Point, Sunheri Masjid roundabout, Rajpath Rafi Marg, Windsor Place roundabout, Rajendra Prasad Road–Janpath roundabout, KG Marg–Ferozeshah Road, Mandi House roundabout, Mathura Road–Purana Qila Road, and others.

To avoid congestion caused by large crowds expected at Delhi Zoo, motorists are advised to avoid Bhairon Road and Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan, the officer added.
