In anticipation of the Holi festival and Friday prayers during the holy month of Ramadan, Delhi Police have intensified security measures across the national capital. Over 25,000 police personnel, along with paramilitary forces, will be deployed to ensure law and order, an official said on Thursday.
The festival of Holi, which falls on March 14, coincides with the Friday prayers of Ramadan, prompting authorities to identify more than 300 sensitive locations. Drones and CCTV cameras are being used for surveillance to monitor any potential disturbances.
To maintain peace, regular meetings with Aman committees are being conducted across all 15 police districts in the city. Officials have instructed district police units to increase patrolling, particularly in residential areas and popular Holi celebration spots.
“Drone surveillance is in place, especially in the northeast district, to prevent any untoward incidents. We have strengthened security measures with constant monitoring and advanced technology to minimise risks,” a senior officer posted in the northeast district said.
Another senior officer stated that police are actively patrolling and engaging with Market Welfare Associations (MWAs) and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to ensure the smooth conduct of both events.
“As Holi and Ramadan’s Friday prayers coincide, we are holding meetings with Aman committees in every district. Both communities have been cooperative and remain in close contact with us. More meetings will be held ahead of the festival and prayers to promote communal harmony and prevent the spread of misinformation,” the officer added.
In addition to security arrangements, the Delhi Traffic Police will set up joint pickets with local police. Special teams will be stationed at major road intersections to curb drunken driving and red-light violations.

“Strict checks will be in place on Holi to identify and penalise those breaking traffic laws. Special teams will monitor drinking hotspots, major intersections, and vulnerable locations to detect violations,” a Delhi Traffic Police officer said.
Authorities have urged residents to celebrate responsibly, emphasising that drinking and driving pose serious risks. Special teams will also keep an eye on rash driving, triple-riding on two-wheelers, and stunt biking.
Furthermore, police are working closely with mosque imams to seek their cooperation in maintaining peace. Patrolling by motorcycle squads and mobile vans will continue throughout the day, with radar guns deployed to curb over-speeding, officials added.
