The Centre will supply 1,000 MT of onions to Delhi, which will be sold at Rs 35 per kg through fair price shops and mobile vans across all 13 districts

The Centre will provide 1,000 metric tons of onions to Delhi that will be sold to people at Rs 35 per kg, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Tuesday.

The onions will also be sold through fair price shops and vans across all the 13 districts in the city, she said in a Delhi CMO statement.

The aim of selling onions through vans is to ensure that affordable onions also reach areas where people may find it difficult to access fair price shops.

Due to crop damage caused by rains, onion prices soared in recent weeks. Currently, onions are available in retail markets of Delhi at around Rs 50-60 per kg.

The Delhi government has decided to procure onion and provide it to the people at affordable prices.

The chief minister made it clear that her government will not allow any onion shortage in the capital. The government aims to ensure adequate availability of essential food items for Delhi residents while also making onions available at reasonable and affordable prices, the CMO said.

The Delhi government is keeping a close watch on the availability and prices of onions so that no shortage arise in the capital under any circumstances, CM Gupta said.
