Delhi Traffic Police cracks down with over 10,000 challans in one week to tackle violations

The traffic authorities announced on Sunday that they have issued more than 10,000 challans as part of a week-long special operation to tackle traffic violations in the city, according to an official statement.

The operation, carried out from March 1 to 7, resulted in the issuance of 10,902 challans for various infractions by the Delhi Traffic Police, the statement confirmed.

Key targets of the enforcement efforts included improper parking, which accounted for 5,957 challans, driving while using a phone with 289 challans, riding without a helmet with 1,131 challans, e-rickshaw violations with 2,476 challans, using cars with tinted glasses with 399 challans, drunk driving with 93 challans, among others.

“The objective of this initiative is not only to penalize offenders but also to enhance public awareness through awareness campaigns, promoting responsible conduct on the roads,” the police stated.

An analysis revealed a notable increase in accidents due to various factors, underscoring the necessity for robust initiatives and deterrent measures, the statement noted.

“By employing a combination of stringent enforcement and educational strategies, we aspire to make a substantial contribution towards reducing accidents and ensuring road safety. We urge citizens to comply with traffic regulations for the collective well-being of all road users,” the police emphasised.
