The Delhi traffic police is set to implement a new strategy to reduce road congestion, transitioning the areas patrolled by their personnel from duty points to beat areas. A duty point typically denotes a specific zone for traffic police personnel, whereas a beat is a broader area.
“We are planning to change the duty-point areas of the traffic personnel into beat areas. We are planning to introduce it as a pilot project. We will first target the main areas or places where traffic congestion is an issue. With this, the traffic police personnel can go to any area in their beat, which is wider than the duty point, in order to remove traffic congestion as and when required,” the officer said.
Given that traffic congestion is a major daily challenge for Delhiites, this initiative is aimed at addressing this concern and improving the overall traffic management system in the capital.
The plan is scheduled to be launched next month, with the Delhi Police having already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with FM radio stations in 2022. This collaboration was designed to provide live traffic updates and diversions to commuters in real-time.
Information regarding traffic congestion and routes is gathered from the ranges and then forwarded to the public relations officer, who relays it to the FM stations, ensuring that the public is kept informed about road conditions and helps in avoiding potential bottlenecks and delays.
