Nearly half (46%) of the 699 candidates contesting the Delhi Assembly election possess education levels between Class 5 and Class 12, as per an analysis by the poll rights body, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
An equal proportion of candidates, 46%, have attained higher education, ranging from undergraduate degrees to doctorates.
The ADR report, which delves into the academic qualifications of candidates for the February 5 election, highlights the educational diversity among those vying for legislative seats.
Out of the 699 candidates, 324 have declared their educational qualifications as being between Class 5 and Class 12, representing basic schooling.
Among the 322 candidates with higher education, 126 are graduates, 84 are graduate professionals, and 104 are postgraduates, while eight hold doctorate degrees. Additionally, 18 candidates have diplomas, showcasing a mix of technical and vocational expertise.
At the lower end of the academic spectrum, six candidates identified themselves as literate without formal schooling, and 29 declared themselves illiterate, reflecting the inclusive nature of the election process.
Compared to the 2020 polls, where 672 candidates were analysed, the number has risen to 699 in 2025.

The analysis also reveals some trends: the number of graduate professionals has increased from 62 to 84, while postgraduate candidates have risen from 90 to 104. However, the number of doctorate holders has declined from 11 to eight.
Interestingly, the count of illiterate candidates has almost doubled, rising sharply from 16 in 2020 to 29 in 2025, signalling broader participation from diverse educational backgrounds.
The 70-member Delhi Assembly is set to vote on February 5, with results scheduled to be announced on February 8.
