Following a fire outbreak at Ghazipur landfill in east Delhi, authorities have initiated an investigation, with an FIR filed against unidentified individuals.
The case, registered under sections 336 (endangering life or safety of others) and 278 (noxious atmosphere to health), is under investigation at Ghazipur Police Station.
The Delhi Fire Service reported a significant blaze on Sunday evening, attributed to gases emitted from the substantial waste accumulation.
Residents, including Ram Kumar from Gharoli village, expressed distress over the toxic smoke, citing difficulty in breathing and eye irritation.
Concerns were raised about children’s safety, as some residents mentioned being unable to send them to school due to the smoke. The BJP criticized both the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the city government for alleged inaction.
In response, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi assured prompt action, stating that officers were deployed overnight to assess the situation.
She asserted that measures were underway to control the smoke within the next five hours and pledged a thorough investigation, dismissing the BJP’s accusations as politically motivated. (With inputs from PTI)
