The Delhi government has announced plans to construct a residential home for mentally-challenged children on a 9.7-acre plot of land in Narela.
Social Welfare Minister Raaj Kumar Anand conducted a review meeting with department officials and approved the construction of the residential home in Mamurpur village, specifically designed for boys with special needs. In the initial phase, the home is expected to admit 456 boys with special needs.
The residential home will feature modern infrastructure, including a multi-purpose hall for organizing workshops and programs for individuals with special needs. The facility will also establish rehabilitation centers to identify and evaluate disabilities in specially-abled individuals.
Furthermore, eligible individuals will receive free assistive devices such as hearing aids, wheelchairs, crutches, spectacles, and other supportive tools based on their specific needs.
The minister emphasised that free treatment for stammering and speech-related problems will be provided through counseling by psychologists and speech therapists.
The aim of this initiative is to create a supportive and inclusive environment for mentally-challenged children, offering them necessary care, rehabilitation, and access to assistive devices to enhance their quality of life, the minister added. (With inputs from PTI)
