Heavy rainfall hit several parts of the national capital on Tuesday morning, bringing much-needed relief from the heat but also causing significant disruption to daily life. The downpour, which occurred during the busy morning rush hour, led to waterlogging and traffic snarls across multiple areas of the city.
Key areas that experienced heavy rain included ITO, Dhaula Kuan, Naraina, Patel Nagar, Vijay Chowk, Jangpura, and Rohini. Several roads in these localities were reported to be inundated, resulting in slow-moving traffic and delays for commuters.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi recorded 8 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Tuesday. The IMD also noted that the city registered a minimum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius, which is slightly below the seasonal average by 0.5 degrees. The maximum temperature for the day is expected to hover around 30 degrees Celsius.
The weather department has forecast a generally cloudy sky with chances of moderate rain continuing through the day.
At 8:30 am, relative humidity was recorded at 70 percent, contributing to the muggy conditions experienced across the city.

Despite the rainfall and increased humidity, the capital’s air quality remained in the satisfactory range on Tuesday morning. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 87 at 9 am. An AQI between 51 and 100 falls under the ‘satisfactory’ category, indicating that air pollution levels pose little or no risk to the general public.
Authorities have urged residents to plan their commute accordingly and remain cautious in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding during heavy rain.
