I-Day traffic advisory: Delhi Police list out roads to avoid

As per the advisory, vehicular access around the Red Fort area, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation on August 15, will be restricted from 4 am to 10 am. Only authorized vehicles will be allowed during this time

In light of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles in the city on Tuesday.

As per the advisory, vehicular access around the Red Fort area, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation on August 15, will be restricted from 4 am to 10 am. Only authorized vehicles will be allowed during this time.

A number of road segments, including Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road, its link road to Netaji Subhash Marg, Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT, and Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover, will be temporarily closed for general traffic on Tuesday, as indicated in the advisory released on Sunday.

Vehicles lacking Independence Day parking labels are advised to avoid certain areas such as C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A Point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, J L Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate, and Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmere Gate via Salimgarh bypass.

For those traveling from north to south, alternate routes are available via Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjang Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, SP Marg, 11 Murti, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Mandir Marg, Panchkulan Road, Rani Jhansi Road, to reach destinations in north Delhi and vice versa.

Similarly, commuters heading from east to west can consider using NH-24 (NH-9) Nizamuddin Khatta, Barapula Road, AllMS Flyover Ring Road, NH-24 (NH-9) Nizamuddin Khatta, Ring Road, Bhairon Road, Mathura Road, Subramanian Bharti Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Prithviray Road, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Panchsheel Marg, SP Marg/Ridge Road, and the reverse route.

The advisory also outlines that Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge towards Shanti Van will be inaccessible on the specified day. Restrictions will be imposed on goods vehicles between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad Bridge from 12 am Monday to 11 am Tuesday. Interstate buses will not be allowed between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT during the same timeframe.

Local city buses, including those operated by the DTC, are advised to avoid Ring Road between ISBT Kashmere Gate and Ring Road – NH-24 (NH-9)/NH T-point (Nizamuddin Khatta) from 12 am Monday to 11 am Tuesday and to utilize alternative routes.

Buses that usually terminate at Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Main Railway Station will experience route alterations or curtailments. Regular bus service will resume after 11 am on Tuesday. Buses typically terminating at Old Delhi Railway Station, Red Fort, Bhai Mati Dass Chowk, Mon Gate, ISBT Pragati Maidan, and Ambedkar Stadium Terminal will instead conclude their routes opposite Turkman Gate on Asaf Ali Road.
