The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) asserted on Saturday that the university administration declined to engage in discussions with its members regarding student-related issues, including alleged inaction on a sexual harassment complaint, prompting a call for a strike on April 16.

Launching a “Suggest Your Union, Demand From Admin” initiative, the union seeks student input to formulate a Charter of Demands addressing critical student concerns.

Key demands include expediting the investigation into a sexual harassment incident and taking action against the accused, along with ensuring the victim’s safety against alleged intimidation attempts.

Following a complaint filed by a female JNU student on March 31 against four individuals for purportedly making sexually derogatory comments, the union highlighted its exclusion from administrative discussions and decisions affecting students.

“The JNUSU will enforce a university-wide strike on April 16 if the JNU VC fails to address urgent student concerns by April 15,” stated the student body, further urging the reinstatement of the now-defunct Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment on campus.
