On GT Road, between the intersections of Azadpur and Rani Jhansi Road, an elevated road will be constructed. According to a formal announcement made on Saturday, a double-deck flyover would be constructed on a portion of this route, with traffic flowing on the lower deck and metro trains on the upper deck.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia recently cleared Rs 266.89 cr for the project during a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC), according to the statement.
To ease traffic congestion in northeast Delhi, the Delhi government would build a flyover between Nand Nagri and Gagan Cinema and an underpass near Loni Chowk.
According to a separate statement from his office, Sisodia, who also oversees PWD, gave his approval to these two projects in the EFC meeting, totaling Rs 341.2 crore.
Sisodia provided information regarding the GT Road project, stating that the Delhi Metro and PWD were collaborating on it and that it would reduce the cost of construction work by about Rs 150 crore”.
This 2.2 km long, 2+2 lane flyover would relieve traffic between Central Delhi and North Delhi and extend from Azadpur to Tripolia Gate. The elevated road will assist reduce traffic congestion and expand the road’s capacity.
According to the statement, the second phase of this project would involve laying a 645-meter underground metro line from Najafgarh Nallah to the Rani Jhansi Road intersection as well as laying the groundwork for the pillars that will support the flyover when it is eventually built by the PWD.
The city government also provided information on the projects for the underpass and flyover.
Sisodia said that the entire 10-km road stretch between Signature Bridge and Bhopura Chowk would become signal free with the development of an underpass at Loni Chowk in North East Delhi and a flyover between Nand Nagri and Gagan Cinema Junction.
“Those travelling to Bhopura via Signature Bridge will have a signal-free road to commute. At present, vehicles take 25-30 minutes to cover this route, but after the completion of these projects, this time will be reduced to half,” he added.
Sharing that Mangal Pandey Marg is one of the most prominent roads of northeast Delhi since it connects hundreds of colonies with North Delhi, he said there is a lot of traffic load on this entire stretch.
Along with these new initiatives, a 1.4 km double-decker flyover between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar is also being constructed. The flyover is being built between Mandoli Junction and Gagan Cinema Junction and will make Nand Nagri T-Junction and Gagan T-Junction signal free.
The flyover will have six lanes and be 1.3 km long in total. The Loni Chowk underpass will feature four lanes and be 500 metres long overall.
