The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday morning, with some areas likely to experience gusty winds.
According to the IMD’s 8:30 AM update, northwest and central Delhi are expected to remain largely dry during the 8:30–10:30 AM window. However, light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are likely in the northeast and southwest parts of the city. Southeast Delhi and adjacent NCR areas may witness more active conditions, with moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. Very light rain or drizzle is also expected in scattered parts of the region.
Commuters are advised to plan accordingly, as brief spells of heavy rain may lead to waterlogging and reduced visibility, particularly in low-lying areas. The weather activity marks a continuation of the monsoon’s advance into the region.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the national capital officially welcomed the monsoon as the southwest monsoon finally advanced over Delhi, arriving two days later than its normal onset date of June 27. Several areas reported waterlogging and traffic congestion due to intense showers. The maximum temperature in the city dropped to 32.8°C — 4.4 degrees below the seasonal average — offering much-needed relief from the previous heat.
On the air quality front, Delhi saw notable improvement. According to the data the city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 82 this morning, categorised as “Satisfactory.
An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.
