A 39-year-old man passed away after being forcefully pulled out of his residence and subjected to severe physical assault, reportedly by his brother-in-law and associates in the Sangam Vihar area of south Delhi, police said on Monday.
The tragic incident occurred on December 29, and the victim, identified as Rakesh, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Monday, according to authorities.
A video circulating on social media captures the disturbing scene where individuals are observed dragging Rakesh out of his home, kicking and striking him with a stone. Subsequently, the alleged perpetrators fled the scene, leaving Rakesh injured on the road.
The genesis of the confrontation traces back to a disagreement between Rakesh and his wife on December 29. Subsequently, she contacted her brother, who, accompanied by friends, arrived in Delhi and reportedly subjected Rakesh to the brutal attack, as detailed by the police.
A formal complaint regarding the incident was lodged on December 31 by Rakesh’s brother, Mukesh, according to a senior police officer. Based on the complaint, an FIR was filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 452 (house trespass), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 34 (common intentions), as reported by the police.
The police officer stated, “Rakesh’s demise occurred early Monday during treatment. We have taken custody of the body and sent it for autopsy.” Additionally, they noted that further charges would be appended to the FIR. (With inputs from PTI)
