This is 30 per cent higher than the violations recorded last year, which stood at 78,169 challans, during the same period -- between January 1 and April 30, official data of the Delhi Traffic Police revealed

A total of 101,164 instances of Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) violations were recorded in the first four months of 2024, marking a 30 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to official data from the Delhi Traffic Police.

“We’ve conducted a thorough analysis of the top ten traffic circles, including Model Town, Karol Bagh, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Punjabi Bagh, and Tilak Nagar, among others, where the highest number of challans were issued in 2024,” a senior police officer of the Delhi Traffic Police said.

The officer said that this surge in violations underscores the ongoing challenge of vehicular pollution in Delhi, notorious for its high levels of air pollution.

“Identifying these high-violation areas allows us to implement targeted enforcement measures to encourage compliance with traffic regulations,” the officer added.

The Delhi Traffic Police stressed the importance of stringent monitoring and enforcement of PUCC regulations to foster a culture of compliance with emissions standards among motorists.

“Addressing vehicular emissions is crucial in combating air pollution in urban areas like Delhi. Hence, cracking down on vehicles without valid PUCCs is essential to mitigate the environmental impact of unchecked emissions,” the officer concluded. (With inputs from PTI)
