Passenger arrested at Delhi airport with over 6 kg hydroponic weed

Customs officers intercepted the Bangkok-bound passenger through APIS profiling and allegedly recovered six vacuum-sealed packets of hydroponic weed concealed in his baggage at IGI Airport

Delhi: Customs officers at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here arrested a passenger who arrived from Bangkok after allegedly recovering over six kg of hydroponic weed concealed in his baggage on Wednesday, officials said.

Hydroponic weed is cannabis cultivated without soil, using a nutrient-rich water solution instead.

The passenger was intercepted at the Green Channel based on APIS (advance passenger information system) profiling, an official statement said.

It said an X-ray examination of the passenger’s baggage revealed suspicious images, after which a physical examination was carried out.

The search resulted in the alleged recovery of six vacuum-sealed packets containing a green-coloured substance suspected to be hydroponic weed (ganja), weighing 6,365 grams, including the packing material, the statement said.

The passenger was arrested on Wednesday under Section 43(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985, it said.

The suspected contraband, along with the concealment and packaging material, was seized under Section 43(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the statement added.
