Rajinder Nagar bypoll: 33.4% polling till 3 pm

Some of the key issues for the election are city government’s liquor policy and water shortage.

The two major contenders in the constituency i.e., the BJP and AAP are confident that their candidates will attain victory by a huge margin.

Polling, which commenced at 7 am, is scheduled till 6 pm. However, the voter turnout in Rajinder Nagar in the 2020 polls was 58.27%.

At 21 locations, 190 polling stations, which include 13 auxiliary ones, have been established. These are provided with all basic amenities like drinking water. Ramps are available for differently-abled people. Also, special arrangements of cretches are in place for mothers who come to vote with their children.

However, in the 2020 polls, the voter turnout in Rajinder Nagar was 58.27 per cent comprising 58.09% male voters and 58.5% female voters.

A total of 1,64,698 voters are eligible, including 92,221 male, 72,473 female and four people from the third gender. Fourteen candidates are in the fray.

There are 591 voters in the differently-abled category, of which 39 are visually impaired; 64 belong to service voter category; and 2,486 belong to age 80 and above.

Other than the AAP, BJP and Congress candidates, there are three candidates from unrecognized parties and eight independent nominees.
