Sweltering heatwave in Delhi pushes power demand to all-time high of 7717 MW

Delhi's previous all-time high peak power demand was recorded at 7,695 MW on June 29, 2022, officials said

Delhi’s peak power demand soared to an unprecedented 7,717 MW on Tuesday afternoon amid the intense summer heat, Discom officials said

Real-time data from the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) Delhi indicated that the city’s peak demand broke all previous records, reaching 7,717 MW at 3:33 PM.

The previous all-time high for Delhi’s peak power demand was 7,695 MW, recorded on June 29, 2022, officials said.

Delhi is currently experiencing intense heat with a steady temperature rise. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heatwave conditions across many parts of Delhi and severe heatwave conditions in some areas.

A red alert has been issued for the next four days.

The seven-day forecast indicates maximum temperatures ranging from 44 to 47 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, the minimum temperature settled at 30.7 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal, while the maximum temperature is expected to be around 45 degrees Celsius. (With inputs from PTI)
