Thunderstorm, light rain likely in Delhi today

The weather department has forcasted strong surface winds accompanied with light rain on Sunday, with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 37 degree Celsius

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 27.8°C on Sunday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting strong surface winds and light rain through the day.

The national capital witnessed light showers on Saturday afternoon, prompting a yellow alert. IMD data showed 2.6 mm of rainfall at Safdarjung, 0.4 mm each at Palam and Ayanagar, and 0.2 mm at Lodhi Road.

Surface observatory data indicated that between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm on Saturday, Palam received 1.4 mm of rain, Safdarjung 0.8 mm, while Ayanagar, Lodhi Road and Ridge recorded only trace amounts.

The maximum temperature on Saturday stood at 34.5°C, two degrees below normal, and the minimum dipped to 26.8°C, a notch below the seasonal average. Humidity ranged between 61% and 88%.

Sunday’s forecast includes strong winds and light rain, with the maximum temperature likely to reach around 37°C.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality was in the ‘satisfactory’ category on Sunday morning, with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 59 at 9 AM.

As per CPCB classifications, an AQI of 0–50 is ‘good’, 51–100 ‘satisfactory’, 101–200 ‘moderate’, 201–300 ‘poor’, 301–400 ‘very poor’, and 401–500 ‘severe’.
