Two workers from a jeans factory lost their lives and another sustained injuries following the collapse of a building in the Welcome area of northeast Delhi early Thursday, according to police reports.

All three employees were on the ground floor of the two-story structure at the time of the incident, authorities said.

“At 2:16 am, we received a distress call regarding the collapse of the old construction building,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey.

While the first floor was unoccupied, the ground floor was utilized for jeans cutting, Tirkey mentioned.

“Three workers trapped in the rubble were rescued and rushed to GTB hospital, where unfortunately two of them succumbed to their injuries,” another officer confirmed.

The deceased have been identified as Arshad (30) and Tauhid (20), while the injured, Rehan (22), is currently undergoing treatment at GTB hospital.

Anoop Singh, station officer of Geeta Colony’s Delhi Fire Service (DFS), reported deploying four fire brigade vehicles for the rescue mission.

Local councillor Haji Zarif from Kabir Nagar stated his immediate response to the incident, along with fire brigade and police officials who initiated rescue efforts.

AIMIM leader Shoaib Jamui, residing nearby, also visited the site, emphasizing the need for accountability without politicizing the tragedy.
