The West Delhi constituency recorded the highest number of voters utilising the home voting facility in the national capital for the Lok Sabha elections, according to data released by the Election Commission.
The data indicates that a total of 969 individuals aged 85 and above, along with 179 persons with disabilities (PWDs), voted from home in the West Delhi constituency.
In an unprecedented move, the Election Commission introduced the ‘Vote From Home’ scheme while announcing the Lok Sabha polls schedule. This initiative is aimed at facilitating the participation of citizens aged 85 and above and individuals with over 40 percent disabilities in the elections.
In the New Delhi constituency, 1,003 voters aged 85 and above, and 75 from the PWD category, cast their votes from home.
Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats are scheduled for polling on May 25.
The office of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) began offering the home voting facility on May 16, continuing until May 24.
As of Monday, 4,967 voters had exercised their franchise from home, according to the data.
The data further reveals that 566 voters in Chandni Chowk, 408 in North East Delhi, 855 in East Delhi, 1,078 in New Delhi, 422 in Northwest Delhi, 1,148 in West Delhi, and 470 in South Delhi have cast their votes from home.
Approximately 91.88 percent of those eligible for home voting in Delhi’s seven constituencies opted for the facility.
Home voting involves a complete team of polling staff and security personnel, ensuring the secrecy of the vote is diligently maintained. A dedicated team visits the voter’s residence to collect the vote, with prior notification given to the voter. The entire process is videographed to ensure transparency, the statement said.
