A ‘Lunatic in the Woods’, a solo exhibition by Gurgaon-based artist Supriya Sathe, is on view at the Main Art Gallery, Kamaladevi Complex, India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi, until August 31. The exhibition brings together 48 new works in acrylic on canvas, blending earthly landscapes with celestial imagination.
Sathe’s paintings move between intimacy and expansiveness, where birch trees, silver moons, icy satellites and imagined horizons converge in surreal stillness. At the heart of the collection lies a reflective question: “Am I a lunatic because I look at you, or am I a lunatic because you look at me?”
For Sathe, lunacy is not in seeing, but in forgetting to see. “This collection is about seeing, truly seeing; the quiet, breathtaking beauty of being alive on this Earth, of looking up and around, and finding wonder waiting quietly in plain sight,” she says.

Born in 1985, Sathe lives and works in Gurgaon. A landscape artist known for her bold colours and textured strokes, she draws inspiration from the sea, mountains and forests — spaces of stillness that restore peace. Her works have previously been exhibited at Lalit Kala Akademi, IIC, Nehru Centre (London), the State Gallery of Fine Arts (Hyderabad), and Arterie Fine Arts (Chicago).
With A Lunatic in the Woods, Sathe continues her exploration of landscapes that blur the lines between Earth and sky, reality and imagination — evoking silence, awe, and the possibility of worlds beyond.
