Art Exhibition: Utsav 2024

The Visual Art Gallery is set to host ‘Utsav 2024,’ an annual exhibition curated by Ratnottama Sengupta, offering a vivid journey through India’s artistic heritage. Organised by Nostalgia Colours, this year’s exhibition celebrates the rich legacy of Indian art while incorporating the creativity of emerging talent.

The exhibition, titled ‘Utsav 2024 – Colours of Nostalgia,’ will open on December 1, and will be on view until December 6, daily from 10 AM to 8 PM. It brings together masterpieces from iconic artists such as K G Subramanian, Paritosh Sen, Rabin Mondal, and Suhas Roy, alongside contemporary works by living legends like Anjolie Ela Menon, Lalu Prasad Shaw, and Ganesh Haloi. Also featured are rising stars, including Debadeep Ghosh and Farhad Hussain, whose works reflect the dynamic evolution of Indian art.

Curator Ratnottama Sengupta describes the exhibition as “a celebration of continuity in Indian art,” adding that ‘Utsav 2024’ is not just an exhibition but “a bridge between memories and modernity, a tribute to artists whose works have shaped and continue to inspire our cultural identity.” She further highlights the emotional connection that the exhibition evokes, emphasizing the timeless nature of art, which connects past and present. “Nostalgia, after all, is the heartbeat of culture,” she says.

Nostalgia Colours, a young and vibrant art gallery based in Kolkata, is hosting the exhibition. Founded by Swati Roy and Kumar Satyapriya, the gallery has quickly become a significant platform for both established and emerging artists. “Nostalgia Colours brings the richness of Indian art closer to enthusiasts worldwide,” says Swati Roy. “Our collection reflects a commitment to authenticity, aesthetic brilliance, and investment value, ensuring every piece resonates with timelessness and quality.”

The ‘Utsav’ series, meaning ‘celebration,’ has become a highly anticipated annual tradition. Through a carefully curated selection of paintings, ‘Utsav 2024’ showcases the evolution of Indian art, from the bold strokes of Paritosh Sen to the innovative expressions of Debadeep Ghosh. The exhibition not only celebrates artistic legacy but also offers a glimpse into the future of Indian art, inviting viewers to rediscover the emotional and artistic landscapes of the country.

Curator Sengupta concludes, “Utsav is not just an exhibition; it’s a reflection of our cultural ethos. Through these canvases, we revisit cherished memories, relive transformative moments, and glimpse the future of Indian art. It’s a celebration of our shared legacy”.
