Delhi: IIC annual festival to be held from October 18

Taking place from October 18 to 22, the cultural festival will feature performances and exhibitions centred around this year’s theme ‘Kalpavriksha: The Nationalist Movement – Freedom and Identity'

The India International Centre (IIC) Delhi will host its annual festival, “The Festival of Art,” from October 18 to 22, 2024. This year marks the 20th edition, focusing on “Kalpavriksha: The Nationalist Movement – Freedom and Identity.” The festival will explore the nationalist movement’s role in shaping political consciousness and identity, highlighting the revival of traditional arts, crafts, music, and dance.

The festival will be held at various locations within the IIC premises, featuring exhibitions at the Main Art Gallery and performances at the Fountain Lawns. It will begin with the inauguration of an exhibition titled Manuscripts and the Movement of Ideas across Asia on October 17, followed by a keynote address from historian Professor Sugata Bose.

Key programmes include poetry readings from the nationalist movement, a Dhrupad recital by Ustad F Wasifuddin Dagar, and a jazz concert by the Buena Vista Jazz Band from Cuba. The festival will also showcase three exhibitions related to Khadi and cultural records from the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute.

The IIC Quarterly: Autumn 2024 will be released, covering various topics, and a Carnival of Comedy Films curated by Shivendra Singh Dungarpur will feature screenings of classic comedies. The food section, titled Celebrating the Home Chef, will offer a variety of cuisines.
