Classical and folk performances from across the country come together in a 90-minute production celebrating 150 years of Vande Mataram

A cultural evening titled Ek Shaam… Swadeshi Ke Naam will be organised at the NCUI Auditorium, Siri Fort Road, New Delhi, on January 29 to commemorate 150 years since the writing of Vande Mataram. The programme will begin at 6.30 PM.

The event will feature a 90-minute cultural production combining classical and folk dance forms from across India. More than 50 artists will perform 14 dance forms, including Garba, Manipuri, Rajasthani folk, Odissi, Mohiniyattam, and rural dance traditions. The performances will be supported by music, LED lighting, and thematic choreography.

A central segment of the programme, titled Vande Mataram – Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, uses dance to interpret ideas of national unity and cultural diversity.

The presentation includes sequences referencing the Indian landscape—rivers, mountains, agricultural life, and changing seasons—along with sections that draw on themes associated with the freedom movement.

Dancers portray ideas of courage, sacrifice, service, and resilience through ensemble formations and classical abhinaya. The use of the tricolour forms part of the visual narrative, with saffron, white, and green used symbolically.

The programme is aligned with the broader national commemoration of Vande Mataram and the themes of cultural continuity and collective identity. The production concludes with a group finale centred on national unity.
