What: Believing that military experience will make him stronger and respectable, Jorge, a young Ecuadorian, joins the armed forces in the midst of his country’s 1941 border war with Peru. Captured and imprisoned by enemy forces, Jorge will soon have to choose between escaping with fellow prisoner Hugo and staying at the camp under the care of the Peruvian nurse, Dolores, with whom he has fallen in love. Following the journey of Jorge, the film Open Wound is part of a special screening of documentaries and feature films from Ecuador, organised in collaboration with the Embassy of Ecuador. Another film La Tola Box examines the more humane aspects of boxing and goes beyond the punches. So, drop in to catch some of the best cinema from Ecuador.

What: Happy Kumar wants to become an actor, but ends up becoming the fourth assistant director of filmmaker, Kohli, who specialises in the snake and sex genre of cinema. With his sensitivity gone for a toss, he becomes disillusioned and lands up in a women’s gym as an instructor. His interaction with the ladies in the gym create rib-tickling humour. Later, Happy learns the intricacies of massage and becomes a famous masseur. Massage is a two-act play, in fact, a monologue in which Rakesh Bedi portrays several characters: a cunning lawyer, an unworthy politician, the heroine, the heroine’s mother, who almost molests him — Bedi plays 24 different characters in a span of 90 minutes.

What: Exemplifying the subtle nuances of his artistic perceptions about the colours of life and their relevance and sanctity in the present times, artist Asif Sharief Shaikh’s works are on display at the exhibition — Joy of Life. The paintings illustrate vivid, interactive and expressive aesthetic forms of perception, which depict his true ode to colours of life. Various experiences of life that had a deep impact on his mind have found a prominent place in this series. He depicts these in a semi-realistic style using acrylic colours on canvas.
