Curated by Amrita Kochhar, the “Garden of Dreams” exhibition seamlessly merges Maya Burman’s early works from the 1990s with her contemporary creations

The exhibition Garden of Dreams, featuring the work of renowned artist Maya Burman, opened on February 12, at the Nayan Naveli Gallery in Greater Kailash. The event was a success, attracting over 200 guests, including art collectors, critics, and enthusiasts. The art exhibition will be open until March 12, 2025.

Curated by Amrita Kochhar, the show brings together Maya Burman’s early works from the 1990s and her more recent paintings, creating a conversation between two very different phases of her artistic journey. The exhibition highlights how her art has evolved over the years and her ability to bring dreams to life on canvas.

Maya Burman shared her thoughts on the show, saying, “The eighteen works I did for this exhibition are very special. While working on the film Maya, the Golden Light, I went through all my paintings from the last 25 years. I could see how different my work was from the ’90s compared to what I do now. I also realized that what I made back then can never be recreated. My hand, imagination, and style have all changed. I decided to mix my older work with my newer paintings to create a conversation between two parts of my life.”

The opening night was met with a positive response, with many guests praising the show and the documentary about Maya’s journey. The exhibition reinforced her growing influence in the world of contemporary art.

Curator Amrita Kochhar shared her admiration for Maya’s work, saying, “It’s an honour to organize a show for someone as talented as Maya Burman. Her art is like poetry in colour—dreamlike and full of joy. The bright colours and detailed motifs bring her world to life, with scenes of children playing, surrounded by fruits and lush gardens. Maya’s paintings are full of energy and happiness, reflecting her playful and creative personality.”
