Manasa-Art Without Frontiers is hosting a unique dance festival featuring two distinguished dance troupes from Odisha and Jharkhand, performing in Delhi for the first time.
The event will take place on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the India International Centre. Entry is free for all attendees.
The festival, conceived and curated by Guru Sharon Lowen, includes performances by Padmashri and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardees.
On Friday, May 31, the performances will include Seraikella Chhau by ‘Trinetra’ Chhau Dance Centre, founded by the late Guru Pandit Gopal Dubey. This will be followed by an Odissi performance by Guru Ranjana Gauhar and her disciples. Both performances will take place from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Deshmukh Auditorium, India International Centre.
The festival continues on Saturday, June 1, with Odissi performances by Guru Kumkum Mohanty and her disciples, as well as by Manasa-Art Without Frontiers, featuring the disciples of Guru Sharon Lowen. These performances will also be held from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Deshmukh Auditorium.
In addition to the dance performances, a seminar titled “Parivartan: Generational Change in Dance” will be held on Saturday, June 1, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the IIC Annexe Lecture Room, India International Centre.
The seminar will feature Kumkum Mohanty, who will share her 70 years of experience in Odissi. Other speakers include Sunil Dubey, Director of Trinetra Dance Centre, and Navtej Johar, a Bharatnatyam exponent and faculty member at Ashoka University. Guru Sharon Lowen will moderate the seminar.
The festival is organized in collaboration with Aalekh Foundation, Dhoomimal Art Gallery, and the India International Centre. It aims to foster an appreciation for India’s cultural heritage and promote the development of future artists.
