The India Habitat Centre is set to host Palette of Stories, a group art exhibition featuring the works of three prominent contemporary artists from Kolkata—Goutam Das, Dhiren Shasmal, and Debarshi Shasmal. The exhibition will be held at the Convention Centre Foyer from July 16 to 20, 2025, and will be open to the public daily from 11 AM to 7 PM.
Bringing together a vibrant mix of modern, mythological and folk-inspired works, the exhibition explores storytelling through brushstrokes, form, and colour. Each of the participating artists is known for a distinctive visual language rooted in cultural expression and narrative depth.
Goutam Das’s emotionally charged realism and finely detailed compositions speak to the inner world of his subjects. Dhiren Shasmal draws heavily from folk traditions, infusing his work with bold patterns and symbolic motifs. Meanwhile, Debarshi Shasmal offers a contemporary take on mythology and human emotion through expressive lines and a dynamic use of colour.
Together, the trio presents a body of work that is both visually engaging and thematically rich—inviting viewers to reflect on identity, memory, and the continuity of cultural traditions.

“This show is a coming together of three unique practices that honour the past while looking toward the future,” said the organisers. “It’s about how stories evolve and continue to resonate across generations.”
All three artists have exhibited widely in India and internationally, and their works are held in several notable collections. Palette of Stories is expected to draw collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts looking to experience a range of voices from contemporary Indian art.
