In a solo show, artist Sanjay Das will showcase the heritage, culture, rituals, festivals, architecture, art, and artisans of Bengal captured over a decade through a trail of the unexplored regions of the state.

Presented by Gallery Ragini, The Red Hibiscus Trail, is curated by Ina Puri and will be on display at the Living Traditions Centre, Bikaner House, Pandara Road, Delhi.

This series captures Bengal through a trail of the explored and the unexplored over a period of a decade. The expanse of Sanjay’s travels through the region and the depth of his search for the culture and the people is reflected in this series of works.

Sanjay’s work is inspired by and brings to the fore the untold stories that India has to offer. He completed his qualification from College of Art, New Delhi. Photography developed as a passion in his early college days and this has spanned more than three decades.

As a photographer Sanjay strives to keep alive the stories and unique elements of India, which may cease to exist in the years to come. These archives will help ameliorate the memories and aid in presenting images for the generations to come. He creates imagery that tells a story – in colour, in texture, in light and in shadow to form a unique blend, layered both visually and intellectually.

“In the present series, I am sharing what the travels have led to when I began exploring rural Bengal, documenting forgotten heritage, culture, terracotta temples, tribes, architectural heritage, rituals, and folk arts. The body of work is the result of around a decade of traveling, interacting, and photographing the lives & work of Bengal’s landscape and people.”

“As a ‘Prabashi’ Bengali who grew up in Delhi, I have been documenting these untold stories of Bengal, driving on road from Delhi to Bengal and throughout the state. My journey is ongoing, and it has in focus the undiscovered and unexplored facets of life. I seek to follow the trail hitherto unknown to compose my pictorial narratives,” he said.
