Vajranabh Natraaj Maharshi, a prominent figure in the world of photography and filmmaking, will bring his latest exhibition The Silent Voice. Maharshi himself has curated a collection that focuses on the extraordinary life of Jamuna Tudu, also known as the Lady Tarzan of Jharkhand.
This event will take place at the AIFACS Gallery in New Delhi from June 23 to June 29, 2023. The exhibition is presented in association with Dhanvika Talkies and in collaboration with RK Film Productions.
Maharshi’s approach to photography and filmmaking has earned him international acclaim throughout his career. With over three decades of experience, he possesses a unique ability to view subjects through unconventional lenses, crafting cinematic visions that resonate deeply with viewers. His work delves into the untouched aspects of society, shedding light on the rhythms of life among indigenous communities and their profound love for nature. Maharshi’s photography captures the silent voices that echo reality and speak volumes.
According to organisers, this upcoming exhibition showcases the story of Jamuna Tudu, an environmental activist and recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award.
They said that Tudu fearlessly fought against forest mafias and Naxalites to protect the jungles surrounding her village from rampant deforestation.
They added that over the course of her dedicated journey, Tudu successfully safeguarded 50 hectares of forest land, mobilised more than 10,000 women to protect trees and wildlife, and empowered women in her village to champion this crucial cause.
Maharshi’s photographs offer an intimate portrayal of Tudu’s profound connection with the Jharkhand forests, highlighting the socio-political issues of the land and her tireless efforts to conserve its natural beauty.
